American Council of Educators in Plastic Surgery

National Gender Affirming Surgery Fellowship Program Registry

The Gender Affirming Surgery (GAS) Fellowship programs have established a coordinated fellowship matching process designed to promote accessibility, equity, and fairness for all applicants. As part of this process, binding match rules have been implemented to ensure a transparent and consistent application and selection procedure. These measures aim to create a streamlined experience for candidates while upholding the highest standards of inclusivity and fairness within the fellowship selection process.

International Applicants: The consideration of international applicants, including eligibility for interviews and ranking, will be determined by each program director in alignment with their institution’s current visa and sponsorship policies. These policies may vary by program. As a result, some programs may have restrictions regarding international applicants, while others may be able to consider them without limitation. We encourage prospective applicants to contact programs directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Match Rules

The following match rules apply equally to both programs and applicants, ensuring a fair and transparent process:

  1. Commitment to Participate
All participants agree to fully engage in the match process. Once a match is made, it is binding in both directions for both programs and applicants. Should a program be unable to fill their training obligations due to policy/political changes, the trainee will have the option be released from this agreement.

  2. Exclusivity
Programs are prohibited from accepting or offering placements outside of the official match process managed by the Organizers. Prospective applicants must participate in the fellowship match. Programs that remain unmatched after the official process concludes, may then offer their available positions independently.

  3. Compliance with Guidelines
Programs commit to following all stated guidelines and annual timelines for the fellowship match cycle, including:

    Application deadline: February -March
    Interview Period: March-April
    Rank Lists due: Early May
    Match Day: Mid-May

  4. Duration and Termination
This agreement becomes effective upon a successful match and remains in effect until the culmination of the fellowship program.

  5. Submission of Rank Lists
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) organizes the ranking and match process anonymously for both programs and applicants. To ensure accurate and timely processing, all participants must submit their finalized rank lists by the published deadline to the Gender Match Coordinator: Lizzandra Trueba Mejias, mejias@ohsu.edu.

  6. Confidentiality
All rankings submitted by programs and applicants are strictly confidential. Rankings are handled exclusively by OHSU and are not shared with any participating parties. The match is conducted anonymously to ensure fairness, integrity, and privacy for all involved.

These rules are designed to uphold the integrity and fairness of the match process for all participants while ensuring clear expectations and commitment throughout the cycle.
